The 2012 Midwest Expo was held Sunday, October 14, 2012, at Jimmy’s Conference Center and was a huge success with record attendance and exhibitors (listed below).

The day’s events started with an Alcohol Server course and a seminar by Alcohol & Gambling Enforcement. The trade show began at 2pm with attendees sampling products from wine, beer and spirits manufacturers and wholesalers. Several point-of-sale vendors were at the show along with vendors representing ice, insurance, pulltab manufactures, soft drinks, credit cards, designated drivers and the list goes on. An informative seminar by Alcohol & Gambling Enforcement and a wine seminar by Vinocopia were well received by the many attendees.
After the trade show wrapped up, a fine dinner was served to the attendees. The dinner was sponsored by our friends at Illinois Casualty Company. Wine was provided for each table by Vinocopia. Once again all the ice for the event was provided by Ace Ice Company. Please use the contact information below to thank these fine folks and all the vendors!
The annual Hospy™ Hall of Fame Awards Celebration was held and several hospitality employee awards were handed out along with “Friends of the Retailer”, “On- and Off-sale members of the Year”, “Legislators of the Year” and 3 people were inducted into the Hospy™ Hall of Fame. The busy day wrapped up with a live auction for the MLBA Children’s Fund charity with great items donated by the vendors.

Below are this year’s recipients of MLBA’s Hospy Awards held in conjunction with the Midwest Expo on Sunday October 14, 2012 presented by MLBA President, Bob Marget. Thanks to all that participated this year and congratulations to the winners!

MLBA President Bob Marget inducts Marion Dauner into the Hospy Hall of Fame class of 2012. Dauner, a long-time MLBA Allied Member, was chosen for her lifetime of service on behalf of retailers in Minnesota from her days with Specialty Wines & Beverages and especially since she helped start Vinocopia.

Klinkhammer has been involved with the MLBA for over 25 years and he has helped countless members with financial planning, insurance and retirement plans. You can’t miss seeing the former St. Thomas and NFL lineman at all MLBA events. Joe is pictured here with his son and business partner, Zeb.

Senator Rosen was chosen as a recipient of the Elected Official of the Year Award for her tireless work to author the electronic pull-tab bill and see it through bi-partisan support to become law on May 14, 2012. The 3rd term senator from Fairmont has been a strong supporter of retailers and small business owners.

 On-Sale Member of the YearJudy Schoborg – VFW Club, Westbrook Judy has been the manager at the Westbrook VFW Club in SW Minnesota for over 25 years. She is a huge supporter of MLBA and has attended several meetings with MLBA at the State Legislature. A leader in the local SW MN Beverage Association, she is well deserving of this honor.

 Off-Sale Member of the YearGus Chafoulias – Andy’s Liquor, Rochester Chafoulias, the 3rd generation owner of Andy’s Liquor in Rochester was chosen for all his hard work on behalf of liquor retailers, especially his work on preventing multiple liquor licenses in his town of Rochester. Accepting the award for Chafoulias at the October 14th event was Irv Keefe and Mike Sedor.

 Elected Official of the YearSenator Jim Metzen – District 39, South St.Paul Senator Metzen has been in the Minnesota Legislature since 1974. He has always been an advocate for Minnesota’s licensed retailers and is a leader in his caucus on issues important to MLBA members. He has been a true friend in the legislature for many years and this award is well deserved.

 Friend of the Retailer Kim Brown (left) – KLB Insurance Kim is a huge sopporter of MLBA. She sponsors and attends all MLBA events as well as advertising in PROOF Magazine. She also has brought dozens of new members to the MLBA and is an advocate for her clients. Kim is pictured here with her daughter (and KLB Insurance Agent) Jackie.

 Friend of the RetailerMike Werrell – Werrell Agency Mike along with his father Jack have been writing liquor liability insurance for MLBA members since the 60’s. Jack passed away this year and MLBA members will be in good hands with Mike at the helm of Werrell Agency. He is always supporting us at all MLBA events.
