Better Than Police, New Metro Service Stops Drunk Drivers Before They Get In Their Car St. Paul, MN - Drunk driving in the Twin Cities still accounts for 40 percent of all fatal crashes. And, as illogical as it seems, many intoxicated Minnesotans get behind the wheel when they’re drunk because they don’t want to have to leave their car and pick it up the next day. These intoxicated drivers risk hurting or even killing themselves or someone else. Even if they don’t get in an accident, the penalty of a DWI can cause severe financial pain with the cost of an arrest ranging from $15,000 to $19,000 including criminal fines, court costs, civil license reinstatement fees, attorney’s fees, insurance premium hikes and the cost of getting to work without a drivers license. Drink and Drive Intelligently is a professional designated driver service currently keeping more than 200 intoxicated drivers a week off of our roads. The service works by providing two drivers, one who drives the client home in his or her car. The other driver follows in a separate vehicle to transport the driver once the customer and car are safe at home. Company Founder Brian Peters saw the need for this service after asking a family member who recently got a DWI why he drove home. The family member said he didn’t want to leave his vehicle overnight. “In our first three years serving the cities we have grown at a rapid rate,” says DDI Founder Brian Peters. “One of the major reasons a person feels the need to drink and drive is to get their car home. Our drivers are able to eliminate that need.” DDI is currently developing partnerships with local bars to spread the word about its services which have grown from 40-60 rides per week to more than 200 on a consistent basis.
