After 5, the report is well, predictable…
Week 5 has passed and retailers are realizing the statewide implications of Sunday Sales. I have received dozens and dozens of calls and emails, stating the prediction of stretching 6 days of business over 7 days has become a reality. Is it a convenience for customers? The answer is yes. Is it a money maker statewide, not as of yet. Seems one retailer is quoted as saying it has been a big win. Who would that be? The answer to that question is obvious. The folks who began the “Why Not Sundays?” campaign are touting increased sales. How can we prove this? The question was asked by reporters, “How much has Sundays helped their sales?” The spokesman for this big box retailer declined to give numbers. Why did they decline? We don’t know.
The proof of how sales have been will not be seen for quite some time. The weather this summer has been fantastic. We will see how the fall, winter and spring of 2018 shake out. How will the Vikings do? How will the Wild do and can the Twins make the playoffs for the first time since 2011? Fingers crossed. There are so many factors that come into play when it comes to predicting sales trends for a day that has not been legally allowed for over 150 years.
Let me know how your Sundays have been! I would like to have that conversation with you. Below is a linked WCCO News story. It is worth the watch.
