2008 MLBA Legislative Day

The 2008 Legislative Day was held on March 4th in conjunction with the Minnesota Municipal Beverage Association (MMBA) at O'Gara's in St Paul. The day’s events started out with a presentation by MLBA Executive Director Jim Farrell and MMBA Executive Director, Paul Kaspszak. They spoke about issues that licensed retailers face this legislative session. Topics discussed were: proposed alcohol tax increases; responsible selling of alcohol in light of the recent college student deaths; an update on wine in grocery legislation which is not expected to move forward this year; a proposal to change the under-21 drivers license to a vertical format; and an overview of this year's liquor bill.

After the presentation, attendees were treated to a delicious Italian buffet lunch. After lunch attendees were bused over to the Capitol and state office buildings to meet their legislators, see first-hand the legislative process and sit in on committee meetings.

The day concluded back at O'Gara's with a reception which included complimentary beverages and appetizers sponsored by Anheuser-Busch.
