State Legislature Shown What Could Happen

The flyer below was handed out to all state legislators this past legislative session by the MLBA and MMBA. It was created to make it very clear that voting for wine in grocery will open a “whole new can of worms.” Many people including myself did not know that there is a company that specifically targets beer/wine licensees with products that supposedly taste like spirits but are made with wine, so they can sell them. Some wine companies sell cans of wine to be sold individually. Also, wine is sold in the same containers that kids use -- juice boxes!! So the next time someone tells you that the grocer’s just want to be able to sell wine with their dinner items, remind them about the items in the flyer below. If you would like a full color copy of the flyer, simply email proof@mlba.com.
Nick Mancini
Last month the MLBA Children’s Fund lost one of its biggest supporters since the beginning of charitable gaming, “Mr. Hospitality” Nick Mancini.
As most folks know in St. Paul, Nick was a legend in the hospitality business greeting his customers on a daily basis for over five decades. Nick’s generosity was endless in his support of those that helped others. Nick loved kids and watched many kids grow up to become customers of his, as their parents and grandparents were, and many are still customers of Mancini’s Char House.
Nick loved to support Cretin-Derham Hall Catholic School were his kids received a great education. Nick also was a big supporter of the West 7th Boys Club, which supported local kids and has given away hundreds of bicycles over the years to those that needed them.
There are many other great organizations that Nick supported over the years but the one that Nick still supports and will continue to carry out Nick’s mission is the MLBA Children’s Fund. Mancini’s Char House was the second pull-tab site the Children’s Fund signed up when charitable gaming began in Minnesota, and we are proud to still be with the Mancini Family at the Char House.
Nick has continuously supported the Children’s Fund during the good times and during the bad times. Mancini’s Char House has helped generate thousands of dollars that have been put back into St. Paul and the surrounding communities.
The organizations that have been touched by the generosity of Nick Mancini are far too many to list here but knowing that Nick is gone has not stopped our desire to continue his mission to help those that are less fortunate. A couple of weeks ago I stopped in and talked with John Mancini and expressed my condolences on his father’s passing. I told Johnny that he was a “chip off the old block” and that he and his brother Pat would carry on in Nick’s tradition.
Johnny said, “We will carry on but there will never be another Nick Mancini.”
Goodbye Nick, you are missed and we will never
forget you.
