NE MN Bar Owners Speak Out on Being Able to Open

MLBA Executive Director Tony Chesak spent Wednesday, May 27th in Proctor, MN, just south of Duluth meeting with over 100 bar and restaurant owners in the parking lot of long-time MLBA Board Member Dick Kari at the Powerhouse Bar. Guest speakers from Congressman Pete Stauber’s office and many MLBA members in the NE MN region of the state joined Executive Director Chesak.

A Duluth TV news station was there as well. MLBA Members got our message out loud and clear to the Governor that the outdoor only plan for bars/restaurant is unreasonable, especially in northern Minnesota where the weather can change by the minute. Even the modest proposal of 50% capacity indoor seating with 6 foot spacing between tables, hand sanitizing and face masks for servers and cooks, etc., was rejected by the governor. Several other states have gone to the 50% model to start their re-opening of their hospitality business with success like Michigan, Ohio and Indiana.
