Reminders for Retailers About “Same-day Licenses and IDs” from MN Dept of Public Safety

Members, there has been some confusion when checking ID’s that the “Same Day” ID looks and feels different than the usual MN ID since 2018. The same day licenses issued by the State of MN are different in some respects such as: they might appear darker and the laminate might not span edge to edge on the card. More information about the differences between same-day issue cards and traditionally issued cards is available in this same-day issue fact sheet (PDF).

Please read the release from MN DPS below. . .

The Dakota County License Center in Lakeville and the Clay County License Bureau in Moorhead began issuing standard class D driver’s licenses and identification cards (IDs) over the counter back on Oct. 3, 2022.

Same-day issued cards have a slightly different look and feel than traditionally issued cards due to the card stock and laminate used in the printing process at the offices. They might appear darker and the laminate might not span edge to edge on the card. More information about the differences between same-day issue cards and traditionally issued cards is available in this same-day issue fact sheet.

The Lakeville and Moorhead offices will issue a no-photo receipt if there is an issue with the card printer. The cards will be printed in the traditional way and mailed to the customer should an issue with the printer arise.
